About Upwey Acupuncture and Dr Amanda Cox-Edwards (TCM)

Experienced, gentle acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in the Dandenong Ranges

Welcome! I’m Dr Amanda Cox-Edwards (TCM), the founder of Upwey Acupuncture.

An image of Amanda surrounded by green plants as she stands on the stairs outside the clinic. This image is on the About Upwey Acupuncture page,

I created Upwey Acupuncture in 2019 to provide a peaceful, private sanctuary where residents can slow down, feel heard, and receive dedicated one-on-one care.

Having grown up in this beautiful region, I am deeply passionate about supporting the health and well-being of my local community – welcoming individuals and families from Upwey, as well as neighbouring suburbs across the hills and Knox area, including Belgrave, Ferny Creek, Upper Ferntree Gully, Ferntree Gully, Rowville, Scoresby, and Tecoma.

“My mission is to offer personalised acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in a tranquil, nature-filled setting. I strongly believe in living in harmony with the seasons and the natural world, and helping others reconnect with their body’s innate balance through this ancient system of medicine.” — Dr Amanda Cox-Edwards (TCM)

23 years of clinical experience and international training

When you visit Upwey Acupuncture, you are supported by over 23 years of continuous clinical practice in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Professional experience and teaching highlights:

  • Educational background: Former lecturer and clinic manager at the London College of Traditional Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine. I also regularly present Chinese medicine workshops at retreats across Melbourne.
  • Specialised women’s health teams: Former member of the Fertile Ground Health Group team in Melbourne; former Secretary of the London Acupuncture Childbirth Team (ACT London); and founding member of the Acupuncture Conception & Childbirth Team Bristol (ACCT Bristol).
  • Continuous education: I regularly undertake ongoing professional development in gynaecology, obstetrics, pain management, and acupuncture techniques to ensure my practice remains evidence-informed and up to date.

Conditions I work with

I have a particular interest in supporting patients experiencing pain and a wide range of women’s health concerns.

Over the years, I have also worked with many other health conditions. If you are unsure whether acupuncture may be suitable for you, please call to discuss your individual needs.

Connected to community and nature

Outside the clinic, my heart belongs to the local environment and community. Having grown up in the Dandenong Ranges, I love spending my free time immersed in our local bushland.

I am deeply connected to our local environment and actively volunteer with the Friends of Glenfern Valley Bushland team and the Yarra Ranges Gardens for Wildlife program.  In my spare time, you’ll often find me in the garden, or practising tai chi and qi gong. Chinese medicine is all about living in harmony with nature’s cycles, and I bring that same sense of balance, grounding, and quiet care into every session at my clinic.

Upwey Acupuncture is a little haven located on the hill in Upwey Village close to Upper Ferntree Gully.

Access to the clinic is via several steps. Take your time and enjoy the view as you head up.

If you arrive early, take a seat in the outdoor covered waiting area. The living wall of plants and the calls of kookaburras and parrots will quickly relax you.

Wednesdays: 9:45 am  – 6:00 pm

Thursdays: 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Parking:

Parking is available on the verge outside 42 Ropley Grange. You can park just before the letterbox directly outside 42 Ropley Grange (entering the road from the Old Belgrave Road end). Please park with 2 wheels onto the gravel by the letterbox and pop your wing mirror in, as Ropley Grange is a narrower road.

We are a pleasant 10-minute walk from Upwey train station, and the main bus stop by the roundabout, and a 20-minute walk from Upper Ferntree Gully train station.

If steps are difficult for you, please contact the clinic, and I can arrange a home visit or refer you somewhere with easier access.
