Dedicated Chinese medicine and hormonal support in Upwey

Whether you are navigating painful periods, preparing your body to conceive, seeking support during an IVF journey, or managing shifting hormones through perimenopause, women’s gynaecological health requires compassionate, individualised care.

At Upwey Acupuncture, I view gynaecological and reproductive health as a window into your overall vitality. Rather than looking at symptoms in isolation, I take the time to understand your whole health picture—including stress, sleep, digestion, and daily lifestyle habits—to provide gentle, evidence-informed Chinese medicine support.

Located in a quiet Upwey setting, my clinic serves women across the local hills community and Knox area, including Boronia, Tecoma, Belgrave, Upper Ferntree Gully, Ferntree Gully, Rowville and Scoresby.

Why choose Upwey Acupuncture for your women’s health issue or fertility journey?

  • 23+ years of clinical expertise: Over two decades of experience accompanying thousands of women and couples through natural conception, assisted reproduction (IVF/IUI), pregnancy, and hormonal transitions.
  • Specialised postgraduate credentials: Former member of the renowned Fertile Ground Health Group in Melbourne (2017–2018), former secretary & member of the London Acupuncture Childbirth Team (ACT London), and founding member of the Acupuncture Conception & Childbirth Team Bristol (ACCT Bristol).
  • Collaborative medical care: Regularly receives referrals from and works alongside Melbourne specialists, fertility consultants, and obstetricians to ensure your care is coordinated and safe.
  • Continuous research & education: Annually undertakes advanced professional development in women’s health, gynaecology, and reproductive medicine to stay aligned with the latest clinical evidence.
  • Fair, transparent pricing: Unlike some clinics, Upwey Acupuncture never adds a price premium for fertility or pregnancy consultations. I believe accessible care is essential during what can be an emotionally and financially demanding journey. Because I treat one patient at a time, I dedicate ample time to research and case preparation for your treatment without extra charges.

Conditions and life stages supported in clinic

I regularly support women in my Upwey clinic through a wide variety of hormonal, menstrual, and reproductive care needs.

Many women experience significant monthly disruption with their cycles. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, treatment is focused on encouraging smooth circulation, easing muscle tension, and supporting cycle regularity. In clinic, I see a variety of menstrual issues such as:

Endometriosis and adenomyosis: Gentle care aimed at easing pelvic discomfort, abdominal tightness, and period pain.

PMOS (formerly PCOS) and irregular cycles: Tailored plans to support metabolic wellness, regulate cycle, and support stress reduction.

PMS and PMDD support: Holistic care to help calm mood shifts, breast tenderness, and pre-menstrual fatigue.

Dysmenorrhea and heavy bleeding: Supportive care for painful or excessively heavy periods.

Trying to conceive can be an exciting yet overwhelming time. Research highlights a strong link between stress and reproductive health, and acupuncture is a well-regarded modality for easing associated anxiety and supporting general well-being. At Upwey Acupuncture, I work with couples trying to conceive naturally, and those going through Western Fertility treatments.

Preconception care: Preparing both partners for natural conception through stress management and lifestyle optimisation.

IVF & IUI support: Acupuncture care tailored to complement medication protocols, egg collection, and embryo transfers.

From early pregnancy care through to birth preparation and postnatal recovery, I offer safe, nurturing treatments tailored to every trimester, commonly:

  • Relief from mild pregnancy discomforts like nausea, fatigue, and muscular tension.
  • Traditional pre-birth acupuncture protocols to support physical and mental relaxation leading up to labour.
  • Postnatal support focused on rebuilding energy, milk supply support, and general birth recovery tailored to each mother.

Navigating perimenopause involves shifting hormonal landscapes. Chinese medicine offers gentle, non-hormonal support designed to nourish body energy and calm the nervous system:

  • Support for temperature fluctuations (hot flushes and night sweats).
  • Restorative care for sleep disruption, fatigue, and brain fog.
  • Mood support during hormonal transitions.

How we work together

Your treatment plan is individually designed and may incorporate:

Acupuncture: Used traditionally to help regulate the nervous system, support local circulation, and encourage deep relaxation.

Chinese herbal medicine: Custom-formulated herbal blends designed to address internal imbalances safely alongside any orthodox medical care.

Dietary and lifestyle guidance: Gentle, practical self-care suggestions based on TCM principles to help manage daily energy and hormonal harmony between appointments.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. When performed by a qualified, registered Chinese medicine practitioner, acupuncture is considered safe throughout all stages of pregnancy. Treatment points and techniques are carefully selected and modified for each trimester to ensure your safety and comfort.

While acupuncture can be beneficial at any point during an IVF cycle (including around embryo transfer day), starting care 8 to 12 weeks prior to egg collection allows adequate time to focus on stress reduction, circulation, and general vitality.

No referral is necessary to book a consultation at Upwey Acupuncture. However, I frequently collaborate with GP’s, gynaecologists, and fertility specialists, and am always happy to work alongside your existing medical team.

There are no hidden fees or extra surcharges for women’s health or pregnancy visits. Simply select a Standard Initial Acupuncture Consultation online to discuss your health journey.
